Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories is purchasing 150 acres of land southwest of Moscow to accommodate future growth.

Idaho-based Deesten Farms LLC is selling land on U.S. Highway 95 near CHS Primeland to Schweitzer, which is working with local officials to annex and rezone the site into Moscow from Latah County, according to a company release.

“This location will be a great fit for our future growth,” Joey Nestegard, Schweitzer’s chief business and financial officer, said in a statement. “It’s close to our headquarters and our manufacturing operations in Pullman and Lewiston. We love this region and have many employees who live in Moscow, suppliers who are nearby and have close ties to the community and universities on both sides of the border.”

The company did not share specific building plans, but will “continue to evaluate its business needs and share project plans as they develop,” according to the news release.

Schweitzer, which has been steadily growing its campuses, was down to nearly 20 acres of land at its Pullman headquarters.

That prompted the company to search for additional land in Pullman, Lewiston and Moscow, Jana Schultheis, the company’s vice president of property, said in a statement.

Schweitzer invents, designs and builds products and systems that protect power grids worldwide.

The company broke ground last month on a 15,460-square-foot health and wellness center in Lewiston.
